PRIVACY

Privacy Policy

Effective September 2, 2026

Our privacy principles

Deskwell collects only the information reasonably necessary to provide, secure, and improve the workspace. We limit access to user data, do not sell personal information, and do not use student content for targeted advertising. Student privacy is a core product requirement.

What Deskwell collects

If you use Google Sign-In, Deskwell receives your name, email address, profile image, and a unique account identifier. If you sign in with email, Deskwell stores your email address, name, and a securely hashed password; it does not store the password you type. Deskwell also stores the chats, projects, files, preferences, and memories you choose to add.

Age eligibility

Deskwell is for people aged 13 and over. We ask for a date of birth once to check eligibility, but after that check we retain only that the account is 13+, the terms version accepted, and the acceptance time. We do not retain the full date of birth for new accounts.

How your data is used

Your information is used to sign you in, keep your workspace separate from other users, save your work, and generate the responses or files you request. We also record usage counts and token-cost estimates to enforce plan limits, prevent abuse, and operate the service. Deskwell does not sell personal information or use schoolwork for advertising.

Google account access

Deskwell requests only basic identity access for sign-in. It does not request access to your Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, contacts, or Google Classroom data.

Service providers and storage

Cloudflare hosts the app and stores account, workspace, and uploaded-file data. Prompts and attached content are sent to OpenAI only when needed to produce the AI result you request. Google provides optional sign-in, Resend sends account emails, and Stripe handles subscriptions. Stripe receives billing and subscription details, but card numbers are entered on Stripe and never reach Deskwell. These companies process data to provide their part of the service.

Security and encryption

User content and document data are encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS and encrypted at rest by Cloudflare, which stores Deskwell's databases and uploaded files. Deskwell also uses account-level access controls to keep each user's workspace separate. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we maintain reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the service.

How long data is kept

Workspace and account data is kept while your account is active so the product can work. Billing records may be kept longer where tax, payment, fraud-prevention, or other legal obligations require it. Contact us to request access to or deletion of your account data.

Your choices

You can sign out at any time. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of your Deskwell account data, use the contact page. Cancelling a subscription and deleting an account are separate actions.

Student privacy, FERPA, and COPPA

Deskwell is designed to support the privacy principles reflected in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), including limited use, access controls, and no unauthorized sale or advertising use of student data. FERPA obligations generally apply to schools and educational institutions. A school considering Deskwell for institution-directed use should review and approve the service under its own FERPA policies and enter any required written agreement before sharing education records.

Consistent with Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) guidelines, Deskwell is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly provide accounts to them. The account setup process checks age eligibility before retaining a new user's workspace data. If we learn that personal information from a child under 13 was retained, we will delete it. Parents, guardians, and schools may use the contact page to raise a concern or request review or deletion.

Changes

This policy may be updated as Deskwell changes. The effective date at the top of this page will show the latest revision.
